Toit Mahadevapura

We’ve now made around three trips to Toit Mahadevapura, which we fondly call ‘our rural Toit’. The only problem we have encountered is Google/Uber maps showing a route through the tech park when coming from the Whitefield/ Varthur Road direction. The security guys won’t let you in, so do use the ORR entrance.

Despite that, we loved the place. It somehow manages to get the spirit and buzz of Toit and yet seem laid-back enough to feel like an old Bangalore pub. Those fun posters from the original Toit and Permit Room have also found a home here. Our favourite spot is upstairs overlooking the greenery.

The beer is always great, and the best pat is that they have a 250 ml option, so I can have Wit and any seasonal they have, like Marzen or Go for Gold, both of which were excellent. D has also found herself a Stray Apple Cider.

It had been so long since I had the Fried Lamb Brain Potlums. I had loved them at Permit Room. The potlums have dipped in size and the dip seems to have changed, but it easily remains a favourite.

Haha! The Andhra Chilli Chicken is another example of great presentation. If that name didn’t daunt you, the bajji will. Both of us are spice fans, so we thoroughly enjoyed crying through this.

Yes, they look unhealthy, and probably are, but who can say no to Calamari with red chilli and that creamy dip!

And now that we have sinned, might as well go the whole hog. Haleem samosas with an excellent tamarind dip. Yes yes, micro greens too. Rolls eyes.

Speaking of hog, the Pork Ribs are superbly cooked, with a sweet and not too spicy sauce.

If you’re missing your greens, well, Life is a Beach. Balinese BBQ chicken grilled in banana leaves with the regulars of the neighbourhood – galangal and a sambal dip.

Should have shot the other way, the hero is in the background. This is the Toit Liver Special. We expected more solid liver but the pâté was fantastic, so no complaints.

When there’s pizza, why not? The Spicy Chicken Pizza has buffalo mozzarella, jalapeños, and well, spicy chicken!

I know, I know, who has desserts in Toit! Buuut, you must try the Filter Kaapi Pot Du Creme at least once. The filter coffee mousse is exceptional, and more than makes up for the not-so-great banana fritters. Why Bangalore cannot have good pazham pori, I am yet to understand. 😐

The music is always great, the service has always been prompt, and once, they even held our table for an hour when I mailed them that we were stuck in traffic. This is now one of our regular haunts.

A meal for two would leave you lighter by around Rs.2500, and it’s absolutely worth it. This is one of the very few places I’d recommend making a trek for.
