Once all the FOMO rush had piped down, Baan Phad Thai proved to be fairly easy to reserve. Judging from the crowd, it’d be a good idea not to attempt a casual walk-in on weekend nights.

Yep, we arrived early! The ambience somehow manages to be just the right amount of buzzy while retaining a calm even when the place is full. If there’s wood and wicker, I’m already sold!

Add liquor to that, and we’re BFFs.

Our friend had a Nam Soda Saowarot – passion fruit, lime and soda, which, despite my meh attitude towards the fruit, was pretty good.
D had a Tom Yumm – that’s the one in the middle. Fantastic combination of soju, rose wine, lemongrass and kaffir lime providing an abundance of flavours, complementing each other.
I think I had the most boring one – Cha Yen (Thai tea with milk) but it was exactly what I needed.

We’re now sometimes salad people, so we started with Yum Yang – Thai Chinese style hot & sour salad with cucumber, onion, cherry tomatoes and chicken. Great flavours again, and pretty voluminous – the looks are deceiving.

Laab Moo is from Laos, though the Esaan spice and sour in this dish is Thai. The mint did a good job of balancing flavours.

Phad Krapao, with stir fried chicken, and a fried egg, with holy basil to elevate the dish. Mix it all up and gobble!

Of course, we had to have Phad Thai – the signature dish with apparently an 18-ingredient sauce. It was, as the kids say, delish!

The 12th Main price tag means that you’d spend about Rs. 3000 for two. But the ambience, service and the taste and quality of food justifies that bill. We’ll probably be back because desserts await.
