Cafe Max

I realised that though we had visited the place, I’d never written about it! And that a lot of the newer set in Bangalore don’t know of the place. I have to admit that it’s pretty well hidden in broad daylight, so that’s not surprising. The last time I was there for lunch, from work, I realised that the ambiance would actually be great for a dinner setting! And that’s how we made a visit on D’s birthday!

The muted lighting, the tree canopy and an excellent playlist confirmed my cosy dinner spot hypothesis! We decided to start with Sangria – champagne for D and red for self. I have to say, I liked mine much more, for a change. Lots of fruits, and exactly the right amount of wine for a wholesome combination.

The Hungarian Goulash soup sounded too delicious to pass, and the combination of beef, celery, potatoes with some excellent garlic bread was indeed delicious. For mains, I asked for the Beef Fillet Roulade and D, eyeing the dessert counter, went for a salad. The Bavarian meat loaf salad had onions and gherkins as well and while it was tasty and arguably healthy, the beef fillet filled with bacon and served with some excellent roasted dumplings, and a fantastic wine sauce is leagues ahead. And to end the meal, we got ourselves a carrot cake. While I usually have chocolate as a non negotiable, I let this one go since my main course was a bit overboard. To be fair, I quite liked it. Great texture and exactly the right amount of sweetness for my liking.

The bill came to a little under Rs.2400. The service was prompt, the food delicious and I shall continue to frequent the place!
