Marigold

Not really the best exotic kind, but hey, in the context of the swamp that is Nallurahalli, the argument might just hold! In fact, that’s probably one of the only things working against Marigold – the location. In fact, on the day we visited, there was some celebration happening right outside with loudspeakers on max mode. I wondered whether they should have listed that as an event in Zomato!

Marigold is reasonably near ITPL so it’s not hard to imagine why the lunch buffet would be their main revenue source. A close second would be the Sunday brunch. Makes sense why they don’t even bother removing the adornments on Saturday. Geist was available and since I had not really tried it earlier, I took the opportunity to taste Weiss Guy. Reasonably mild with banana and clove tones, and a nice ‘feel’.

D took a long time deciding between a Cream of Chicken and a Thai Coconut soup. I nudged her towards the latter. That was a good choice, though I say so myself, since it was almost as creamy as a the other soup would have been. The usual suspects – lemongrass, kaffir and ginger – made it a flavourful delight. Since the Koonthal Ullarthiyathu was available, we decided to try that. I quite liked the spice level and the well cooked squid, but D left her share of the masala untouched. Advisable only if you like a heavy and spicy masala.

Since we had tried Thai and Kerala, we decided to go with a Butter Chicken Masala, rotis and kulchas for the main course. Equal opportunity tummy! The gravy was rich and creamy and we found it much better than some of the fare we have tasted recently. A good time to ask, what is with the paucity of good North Indian restaurants in Bangalore?

Meanwhile, the meal cost us around Rs.1250. The ambiance is quite old school – furniture, piped music and families. You wouldn’t want to travel to Whitefield for this, but if you work/stay in these parts, and want a no-frills, peaceful meal, give it a shot.
