Our not-so-new Forum Shantiniketan mall in Whitefield, which has already “grilled” us in many ways – Uno Chicago and Punjab – has now given us a Smokehouse Deli as well! While the first two are relatively easy to spot, the new entrant is reasonably well hidden. You have to exit the mall through the back on the lower ground floor to find it! Our sangria plans helped us stay focused!
The place is classic Smokehouse, though the Indiranagar version does a better job of localising the sketches. Thanks to the proximity to the apartments, there were noisy kids. Thankfully, that reduced as the evening progressed.
We chose a Rosso Sangria pitcher. No complaints here, but the Toscano benchmark is tough to beat! The complimentary breads were fresh, and we munched as we waited for our food to arrive.
The sausage platter arrived first, and had to be sent back because of extra protein filaments that we didn’t ask for. The dish was taken away soon as I pointed it out. A few minutes later, a bowl of french fries were plonked on the table, ostensibly for the waiting period! No communication thus far. A fresh platter appeared after a while, and this time, I steadfastly refused to make eye contact with the dish. It was tasty enough, thankfully.
We then asked for a chicken, tomato and pok choy risotto. It wasn’t as cheesy as I’d have liked, but the flavours were excellent. We asked for the bill, but were then presented a Tiramisu jar, apparently on the house for the snafu earlier.
The meal set us back by about Rs.2700. The service could definitely be better. When they did approach us, they were friendly and courteous, but most of their time was spent either socialising amongst themselves or collectively marveling at the profound mysteries of their billing and ordering software!
