Old Mill Brewing Co. popped up when we were looking for new places around our hometown – Whitefield. But we were thwarted two weeks in a row, courtesy rains! The third time wasn’t really the charm, as the 6km drive took 45 minutes! But things turned around when we finally reached there.
Since we got there relatively early in the evening, it was near empty, and we were glad to see a brewery without dirty waterbodies, loud music, and underaged kids shooting for reels! Refreshing change of scene. The place is quite huge with seating options across multiple floors.
We got a table with a view of the bar, and later, that area above the bar became the stage for some live music. Not the best music, but hey, good enough when one is a couple of beers down!
We sampled all they had to offer, which included a limited edition Bloody Mary Sour! Actually, the previous month’s special toddy beer was what we were after, but that wasn’t available. I finally went with a Culturaagi – Raagi Lager (that was unexpected) and D opted for a Tropical Bliss Cider. Both had 250 ml versions available, so I got myself the Golden Harvest (Hefeweizen) as well later.
I avoid fish in Bangalore eateries which are near lakes (this one has Varthur Lake) 🤭 but I was reasonably sure they wouldn’t find squid there. The Calamari Pepper Fry was actually good, with a spice kick that made it an excellent beer companion. We scored another win with the Kari Dosa. The dosa itself was great, and so was the chicken topping. Spicy again, with that peanut-based dip complementing it perfectly. To the extent, we asked for one more little bowl!
The only snag was that we were then in that lousy state of not full – not hungry. So we went for one of D’s standard soldiers – Nachos. This was just standard stuff, nothing special.
The bill came to a little under Rs. 2500. We quite liked Old Mill’s ambience, and the service was pleasant enough. We will probably visit again, provided we can find that window in which traffic is not a complete mess.
