I have to admit, the original choice was Burma Burma, who wouldn’t take a reservation on Saturday. We weren’t lucky enough to get a table without a 1 hour waiting time, so we walked to Lucky Chan, which we had anyway considered. Since it was still early in the evening, we managed to find a table easily.

Lucky Chan manages to mix a certain zest with the comfort and cosiness of a local diner. Overall it was a perfect ambience for us. We didn’t catch a glimpse of the conveyer belt sushi, but that is anyway quite a ‘dangerous’ thing as we discovered in Kyoto.

We got a paper menu, but later discovered that the QR code based one had even more options. That was also because they had missed giving us the alcohol menu! It was a great weather to begin with the Corn Cream soup – buttered corn and coconut cream. Rich and flavourful, this was a perfect start.

I really need to remind myself of this Charcoal meh-ness! That charcoal-infused wrapper always makes us choose this, and the filling is rarely satisfactory. This one too was not the ‘spicy’ fare that was promised in the description. Thankfully, the chilli sauces on the table offer backup. The Hong Kong style spicy chicken bun was slightly better on that front, but there are way more options to try.

For mains, D went for the Dan Dan Noodles – steamed noodles in chilli bean sauce and chilli oil with diced chicken. I was too late on the fastest finger count, because this one came to the table like one of those pull up cakes. The dish itself was tasty, but the hero dish of the day, to me, was the Korean Kimchi Ramen Chicken. This was perfect when it came to flavours, I was slurping happily, and a little reluctant when it came to our standard practice of switching dishes midway!

By 8, the place was packed, so you might want to go a bit early. The bill left us lighter by Rs. 2500 (without alcohol) but between the ambience, service, music and the food, we felt this was warranted given the location. Definitely worth a visit if you have one of their outlets nearby.
