Our last night out in 2023. We bet on the traffic being low on the night before New Year’s eve, and were thankfully right. I had seen the place from the metro, and thought the ambiance was great. And indeed it was. Yuki is on the second floor of a building that gives you a world of options – Leon on the ground floor, and I think, a North Indian restaurant, coming up soon on the first. As the name suggests, Yuki has Pan Asian cuisine.
If you manage to get one of the tables overlooking the road, you have a nice place to watch the world go by (including on a metro), under a lovely tree canopy. We had reserved in advance, but as I had suspected at the time of booking, the person hadn’t taken our details. Thankfully, we were early, and managed to get the table we wanted. Yuki is less than a month old, and I hope this was only teething troubles.
Since I was being threatened by a cough, I was happy to see a Hot Toddy in the menu. This one was very well made. Alcohol and warmth provided both immediate comfort and a respite from the nascent cough. D was more adventurous and chose a Purple Moon. Blue pea infused gin, salted Elderflower and Tonic. She said it was just ok. But they have quite a collection of cocktails, as well as sake and shōchū. Maybe another time.
These days, D ignores even Tom Kha if there is Miso soup. 🥺 So that’s what we tried. And it was great! I think their ingredients sourcing is working well, because the wakame seaweed was really good. The mild chili flavour made it a delicious broth. For starters, we tried the Gai Phad Phrik – sliced chicken with basil, kaffir lime and birds eye chilli. This one, despite the last item, wasn’t as spicy as we expected. Or maybe our spice tolerance is back! 😎
Plenty of starters to choose from including sushi. In fact, we wanted to try Cheung Fung, but it wasn’t available.
For mains, we ordered a Noodles with Spicy Basil sauce, which had a peanut flavour, corn, and tofu along with the chicken. Served in a hot pot, the sauce was superb. We also had a Japanese Curry Ramen Pork. Again, excellent pork, to the extent that even D, who isn’t a pork fan, actually liked it. The curry flavour was spot on, and we slurped away.
There are dessert options, but we skipped.
The service was very friendly, and they served the food quite promptly. By the time we left, the place was quite full, so it might be a good idea to reserve if you’re planning to arrive at 8 or after. The bill came to a little under ₹3100, inclusive of a service charge. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Indiranagar.
