Back in September, we heard this fascinating piece of news that Malleswaram got itself a microbrewery! We decided to go there at the very first opportunity. The long weekend in the beginning of October gave us just that – four days of holiday meant that we had enough time to get to the Sheraton (where it is located) and back. (never mind the publishing date) Speaking of the Sheraton, if you try to access District6 via the hotel’s main entrance, you’ll be asked to go right back, take the entrance just before Orion Mall and you’ll find the valet immediately to the left.
The place has a grunge wood exterior, and on a Saturday afternoon, didn’t really have the buzz that one normally sees in a microbrewery. In fact, it seems more like a fine dining restaurant which also happens to serve craft beer, and you’d realise that mostly because of the gleaming vats.ย There’s a seating area outside where you can sip beer and watch the world go by.
There seemed to be more alcohol options than food, and the menu was a mix of everything from Cochin to Canada! We asked for a beer sampler, and tried all the four beers available on the day – Liberator, Chief, Dark Lord and Radler. The Chief emerged the favourite – three of us opted for the 500 ml (yep, no 330 ml for this one!) wheat beer. B chose a Dark Lord (malt) We were super hungry and immediately asked for a Beef Chilli Poutines and Snail Sausage. The first, is a Canadian dish, which none of us had tried before. Turned out to be mostly french fries with the beef and sauce making a very brief guest appearance. Utterly avoidable. The snail sausage, however, was awesome, with fantastic mash and gravy.
For the main course, we decided to try Peri Peri chicken drumsticks, Pork belly yakitori, Lemon Chicken Linguini and a Reuben sandwich. The Peri Peri chicken was superbly spicy and the person who ordered it gave up on it. The rest of us enjoyed it though! ๐ The Pork Belly was wonderfully cooked and was everyone’s favourite dish. Reuben was beef, sauerkraut, and cheese and quite tasty, though the portion seemed very small. The Linguini had a clear lemon presence, so if if a tart flavour is not something you’d like to see in your pasta, then this one’s not for you. I quite liked it though.
N got all excited by the Eton Mess she saw in the desserts section, but we ended up ordering the Big Stuff Cheesecake first. I liked the beer cream topping on the cheesecake. Eton Mess, in B’s words, was just fruit salad! ๐ With cream, I pointed out. N kept muttering meringue, which she apparently got, while we got just desserts.
The service is pleasant and friendly, but they could be a bit more prompt.ย A meal for two would cost us around Rs.3000. It’s part of the Sheraton so we weren’t really surprised. In any case, the uber rich folks in West Bangalore wouldn’t really mind. ๐

It’s not part of Sheraton sire. Just shares the same building..
Yes, did it seem that way from what I wrote?
