Blog…Blogger..Bloggest

.….and after over five years of floating around the net, trying to find itself, manuscrypts seems to have found its final resting place. Of course, I’m quite sure there will be regular cosmetic changes, but yes, we won’t be shifting now. The EMIs for the domain and hosting are being paid, and there’s lots of interest. So you see, nothing much has changed, the bad jokes remain.

So, take a look around. I’m still working on the categories, grappling with whether/how to include a blogroll (there are just so many bloggers I have to add, that I fear the list may be too long. Those familiar with the manuscrypts blog would know that I even keep links of people who haven’t updated in years). I have to clean up the brants tags, and I’ve used too few in Blogger. So, its still work in progress. Since all the blogs’ content will now be here, there should be about 5-6 posts a week. One restaurant review, a couple of personal posts and 2-3 brand/social media posts.

What I’d love you guys to do now is give me feedback. Positive mostly…. just kidding. πŸ˜‰ But seriously, have a look at ‘Type Scrypts’ and let me know whether I should categorise differently, so that its easier for you to navigate. Also give me your opinion on the relative positions of items on the sidebar. (tags, categories, archives etc). Do you like the about page? And finally, and most importantly, do you like the content, whether it be the manuscrypts kind, the restorants kind or the brants kind. Shorter? Longer? More of something you’d like to see? Lesser? (Be nice and don’t include me in the last one) πŸ˜€

I’ll miss my old blog, these words from Garden State would express it best for me ” You know that point in your life when you realize that the house that you grew up in isn’t really your home anymore? All of a sudden even though you have some place where you can put your stuff that idea of home is gone.… You’ll see when you move out it just sort of happens one day and it’s just gone. And you can never get it back. It’s like you get homesick for a place that doesn’t exist. I mean it’s like this rite of passage, you know.… I miss the idea of it. Maybe that’s all family really is. A group of people who miss the same imaginary place.”

When I first wrote the words ‘Blog…Blogger..Bloggest’, it was perhaps my own site that I had in mind. At that point, to a guy who couldn’t code for his life, it was a big step. It still is, but it also marks the end of one five year old chapter. And so, if you liked the blog, and you liked the blogger, I hope you’ll be with me as I start this new journey.

until next time, thank you πŸ™‚

  1. a new home, a new experience….
    looks great….:)

now since u insisted, and the comment box refused to publish my comment till i give some feedback πŸ˜› – mayb u can move t prescrypts to a more condensed place (a tree, a drop down sort of thing) , will create a lil more space …..for teh ying and yang to flow πŸ˜›

content is teh king…keep it coming.

  2. You want to combine brants, restorants and manuscrypts you mean?
Then use category thingy in wordpress… Categorise each post (apart from taging that is).. so if someone has to read branding related posts he can simply hop on to those posts. You get what I am saying…

  3. I like this!

Will go thru in in leisure and give you a detialed opinion.

Ps : Din’t know you were a carnatic vocalist πŸ˜€

  4. Like the new place πŸ™‚ But whatever happened to the iconic icon M?? Aise corner position doesn’t do justice to it..Put a big ass M somewhere πŸ™‚

  5. Own location and all? Jaaalee gud, saar!

Here’s my two-million-bit feedback even if you didn’t ask for it (actually you did!)..

    1. Good template; it’s clean and keeps the red-and-white Manuscrypts theme. I’d do something about adding that fetching logo of yours with a forked tail to the header and also that thingamajig which makes the logo appear next to the URL in the Address bar.

    2. You’ve got the About section, another pat on the back! I didn’t know about Brants and now I’m just glad you’re merging it with this blog…makes it easier to track.

    3. There’s a plug-in that you can install on the ‘Contact’ page where visitors write their message on a form rather than sending you an email. It helps if you want to avoid spam but also makes it easier for readers who want to get in touch…I think.

    4. The problem I’ve faced each time I switch URLs (thrice in 4 years!) is that people don’t make the switch on their readers and side-bars. The last time I did (when I went to my own domain), I sent out a mail to the readers I did have addresses of, announcing the shift and giving a link to both my blog, and to its feed. That helped considerably.

And now all that said, welcome to the headache of running your own home!!!!

  6. deez: the drop down box this template has is not very appealing.. also it balances one side for me..

balu: categories was easy, but a category called ‘manuscrypts’ looks very funny.. anyways, have attempted some order with work-life-balance

  7. austere : thanks.. i tend to do rambling posts on brands/social media and am afraid it will discourage the other kind of readers from going down and checking the other posts… hmm, shall not use it only for the long posts now, and if its still a pain, lemme know, and we shall drop it… as for the blogroll, its about 50+ long 😐

jyo: thanks.. learnt till i got into +2… but now definitely ex πŸ˜€

  8. anoop: at the very top? I have too many categories for that..

epiphany: i was sorely tempted, but i thought it would take away from the er, gravitas of the place πŸ˜‰ the real reason is that i can’t handle graphics software, everything i do ends up looking like a patch 😐

  9. TCWB: considering that i won’t move out of here, its a small pain.. on the email, this gmail id is only for the blog.. so its ok

smitheeee, you’re an angel πŸ˜€ .. thingamajig happens on firefox, added a favicon plugin, not on ie, i see ..hmm, as for the m, would love to, but am too graphically challenged πŸ™ yup, brants was a totally different audience, but once i removed that block from the head, it was easy.. so i thought, after all, its only me, so one comprehensive website is fine πŸ™‚ lemme hunt for the contact plugin, but i’ve noticed that most plugins are only updated till wp2.5, so i might have to wait a little.. and i’ve never been an email person, you’d be perhaps 1 out of a total of 5 people i’ve mailed, and all have already landed here πŸ™‚ so i dont have the mail option… once again, thanks a ton πŸ˜€

  10. Can I add some more gyaan? A lot of bloggers grapple with the fact that there are more lurkers than commenters. That just is the reality of life. Also, I hate the thought of my blog being read on a reader since the other additions like template switches, add-ons and pages are then lost. Keep trying…I find it helps to put up a post announcing a new page or particularly interesting widget (like my Yahoo avatar which also includes some updates on my mood).

And finally there’s a super-cool plug-in that lets readers comment on your post from their feed-reader itself. You’ll have to do a search online I’m afraid since I loaded all of it from my home comp which crashed last month. πŸ™

  11. Hi Manu – Once again, like your style. Some feedback :
    1. I don’t quite like having to scroll sideways to look at all the ‘stuff’ you’ve got on the page.
    2. Where’s the link to my blog? :))
    Take care….
    Corinne
