  • One man’s meat….

She was sad when she saw their tiny bodies in the balcony. After all, she’d known them from the time they were born. But she wondered why he was sad.

He was saddened at the wasted death of two pigeons, who, if he’d had his way a few weeks back, would’ve made a fine omelette.

    until next time, </ tweets>

PS. People!! the key words are ‘a few weeks back’!! Pigeon eggs are a delicacy in china, I’m not sure about pigeons!!!

  • Dead Ends

Ever since I saw Via Darjeeling, I’ve had this thought. In every movie that I’ve seen, the hero has to be victorious at the end. The villain never wins.

Of course, there are movies with tragic endings, where the hero dies in the end, but its always due to life circumstances than the villain in particular. Also, in Bollywood multi starrer movies of yore, whenever the number of heroines was lesser than the heroes, one hero was destined to die somewhere before the end. Sholay like scenarios, where its technically impossible for the hero and heroine to get hitched, are also included in this. There are also side heroes who end up martyrs. Add to this, the various instances of heroine/brother/mother/ human friend/ dog friend etc taking revenge on the villain  (the last one was specifically included for Teri Meherbaniyan) and you never see the villain win. Anti heroes always have a justification.

We obviously don’t have a problem with unhappy endings. There are umpteen number of films that have become hits thanks to the hero’s tragic death in the end. So what makes films shy away from endings with a triumphant villain? Is it a self created rule to make sure that good always wins in good vs evil? Because people watch films as an escape from real life, and cannot digest real life on reel life? Why can’t we digest endings where a villain wins?

So will you pay to watch a movie where the villain wins in the end, or will you stay away because you’d feel cheated with such an ending? How about books with this theme?

until next time, know any exceptions?

PS. Bollywood/Hollywood (like say, Arlington Road), I can’t handle subtitled stuff 😐

  • A Matter of life and death

It is not about death. That is a process that starts as soon as we’re born. It is the reminders of mortality that has led to my aversion for hospitals. Mangled body parts, groans of suffering that beg me to put the sick person out of his misery. Painful messages that tell me that I’m really not in control.
It is not about control. That is a process that stops as soon as we’re born, or perhaps way before that. It is the reminders of the hands that decide my destiny that nauseate me. Faces begging for answers as to why it had to happen to them. It warns me of age, and a clock ticking somewhere.
It is not about death. It is about groping frustratingly for answers that seem to elude me. It is about wondering if I have missed my destiny, and wondering if everything I experience is a clue to something that I’m missing, and the futility that I’d experience if I kept missing them. For, it is when I walk through hospital corridors, that I painfully see the possibilities- physical and mental wrecks of what were once, human beings, it is then I realize that it’s life I’m afraid of.

    Until next time, live

  • Point of view

He wanted to die. he just wanted to die. he wasnt sad, nor was he in any kind of trouble. but he still wanted to die. to all the people who enquired, he asked what the whole fuss of death was all about.
he asked them whether they knew what happened after death. all of them had their pet theories, but no one was too sure. he said that was exactly what his problem was. he wanted to know what happened after death.
maybe the experience was heavenly, that was why no one ever came back. maybe they had to go through hell to get back. whatever it was, he was just dying to see it!!
until next time, i wonder, i just wonder 🙂
  • Bollywood and the big picture

thats the basic premise i am going to post on today, coz i caught up with a lil of my backlog in that area, saw khwaish and qayamat…so will bore you with mini reviews….khwaish is a very down to earth movie, totally unpretentious, and if it had the right hero and good promos, instead of harping on the smooches (which werent all that good), it might just have clicked… the hero dude is way too wooden to do any good, he should audition for a terminator role (he’s more deadpan that arnie), it took till the last scene to squeeze out the actor in him…the movie touched me coz of the simplicity…and i have always been a sucker for pathos…qayamat, all u have to do to make this movie work is replace arbaaz, sanjay kapoor and that chunkey pandey..(u would expect some kind of improvement when the guy has been out for years, and become a star in bangladesh, but some things never change).. oh, what the hell, qayamat is basically ‘the rock’ , the cage and connery hollywood flick….it seems ram gopal varma is doing a sequel of darna mana hai, to be titled darna zaroori hai…i think i can see the version 1 by next week.the national awards were announced, and ajay devgan is best actor for ‘the legend of bhagat singh’…u have to see it to believe it, what a performance, he really made you feel for bhagat singh and his ideologies..’mr and mrs iyer’ got 4 awards, again well deserved, another simple movie, which could have been made complicated, but thankfully was not…..hey, any budding writers out there, do check this out.
and yes michelle, the big picture, before that, i want to sidetrack, otherwise i’ll forget about it, some hindus believe that you acquire the karma of the animal you eat, so its best to be vegetarian…as regards the iranian twins, for now i can only quote malcolm muggeridge(journalist/tv host/writer)’ ” in all the larger shaping of life, there is a plan already, into which one has no choice but to fit”…..isnt death itself a part of the big picture? arent there a whole lot of people who die before 28? and maybe, just maybe, if thay had waited for some more time, we might have had a different ending??and a t-shirt for our kinda people, bloggers, here..hmm, i just might get a few “is that the first time you are seeing it” responses for that, wont i??……relax, the ranting stops with
