• A Reason to blog

I think i have followed a predictable path in blogging, starting out when rediff hyped blogging in early 2003, precisely because of that reason, hype. i felt it was a good forum, still do, though some apprehensions still remain, primarily to do with the commercialisation of the medium.the next step was playing around with template, going all green after going visiting..hehe..i think the only one remaining (in my list) from that era is swb. cant help say that i still feel green when i see some of his content..:).. what, i guess, followed was a deliberate attemptto make the content interesting to readers, to put it more bluntly, anything to increase traffic!!…hehe
it actually seems a long time ago, though we are talking only of times a year and a half back…. when i read the earlier posts objectively(as much as possible), i can actually see the person evolving with the blog (there are some who would question the particular word used..hehe)….over a period of time, the blog has meant different things to me – ego boosts, acceptance, freedom.. to name a few.
now readers are important to me in a whole new way – like friends in school/college..to be taken for granted when around, and to be missed terribly when not around… now, posts are moments captured in time.
for many people, images do the trick, but for me, the regular ‘picture and thousand words’ doesnt make sense in this particular context. some time later, i can read this post and understand exactly what i felt at 10.30 am on 24 sep 2004….
at different points in time, we have different reasons for doing things, and for me, now, this is the reason to blog….
now….weekends should start on a happy note, and thats enough reason for some
    Solid Humour, I Thought
Here are the top eight comments made by NBC sports commentators during the Summer Olympics:
    1. Weightlifting commentator: “This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing.”
    2. Dressage commentator: “This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother.”
    3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: “I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father.”
    4. Boxing Analyst: “Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious.”
    5. Basketball analyst: “He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn’t like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces.”
    6. At the rowing medal ceremony: “Ah, isn’t that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew.”
    7. Soccer commentator: “Julian Dicks is everywhere. It’s like they’ve got eleven Dicks on the field.”
    8. Tennis commentator: “One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them…

    till next time, keep reasoning

  • The Lighthouse

Thats how i would describe this template. i am not sure if blogger has named it the same. the template is partly the reason i decided to shift here (psst psst, i am sick of copy pasting template codes from sites..hehe)
i love the sea, must have something to do with my starsign, that and the fishy character bit :)… and i love all the visuals they have used in the template – the clouds, the waves breaking against the rocks, the lighthouse itself…..
the clouds, because of the sense of serenity and infinity that they portray…. the rocks and the waves, which show me the paradoxical situations of end and continuity..
..and the lighthouse – waves crashing all around, but still standing strong… seeing clearly the things around, helping others see it too, awake when everyone is asleep, awake when everyone is sheltered, awake to help people find the shore safely….
…one day, i hope to live life like the lighthouse, remain awake, see things clearly, help others see too, and still stand strong….(uh oh, scary thought..did i just describe a call centre job??)
till next time, lighten up !!

  • my new scripts…..

all endings are also beginnings. we just dont know it at that time……… damn , if i knew how to write such profound statements, i would also be sitting on my second bestseller by now, instead of being confined to a virtual presence, but hell, who says thats bad. those first two lines were from the book i just finished reading – “five people you meet in heaven“. i will refrain from doing a review, the last time i did it, i scared off potential readers.
wokay, thats enough publicity for the book, lets talk about ME for some time…hehe, did i scare you?
i feel bad getting out of rediff, like i told D, its like leaving your first home. but version 1 seemed to be getting too serious for my own good, so i am making a conscious effort to be slightly more ‘normal’. i wish i could explain ‘normal’ to you. mundane is definitely a parameter and so is humour and increased frequency. i frankly dont know if this is justification enough, the company remains the same, and you still find a lot of stuff you used to find in version 1, but JUST GIMME SOME MORE TIME, OKAY!!..oops, sorry again….
but like i have said before, each blog has a character separate from the individual behind it, and it is easier to create a new entity rather than change this character …
“Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.” ~ Frank Herbert
    ……….and so he has
until next time, keep the change!!

actually the title is self explanatory.but since readers are readers, an explanation is the least i can do. i believe that since blogging is a mode of self expression, the posts lose objectivity after a certain amount of time and become monotonous, almost like a broken record, like old wine in a new bottle…
to be very honest, i am extremely sad at going off rediff..like i told my wife, its like moving out of your first home, it hurts.. but sometimes the new home is just better, and you can only fight the temptation for so long. i have lost the fight, for now….
and though i plan to be back, somewhere, i hope to keep this one like asimov’s second foundation, hidden from the mainstream and safe to keep my spirit of blogging alive, and remind me of how it all started….
so, until i surface again, its adieu…..

this seems to be a perfect fit for the occasion
If you’re leaving close the door.
    I’m not expecting people anymore.
Hear me grieving, I’m lying on the floor.
Whether I’m drunk or dead I really ain’t too sure.
I’m a blind man, I’m a blind man and my world is pale.
When a blind man cries, Lord, you know there ain’t no sadder tale.
Had a friend once in a room,
had a good time but it ended much too soon.
In a cold month in that room
we found a reason for the things we had to do.
I’m a blind man, I’m a blind man, now my room is cold.
When a blind man cries, Lord, you know he feels it from his soul.

  • I, Robot?

saw the movie last weekend and immediately decided to revisit a certain mr.asimov…. once upon a time i was an asimov freak, more into the foundation series than the times and therefore works before the foundation..so “i, Robot” was just one of the books i read because it so happened that it was written by asimov and i couldnt find any good ‘foundation’ book in the library… ah, those were good times, times i spent in cochin, rainy days spent reading books and listening to music.. but thats another post..:)
without revealing the plot and suspense, asimov discusses a future with robots able to do a whole lot of stuff humans did and even further, when “random bits of code got together” and developed emotions in robots, to the level where they decide to protect us from ourselves by making us, their creators, virtual prisoners…
so i ask myself, am i my creator’s robot, who has developed feelings and emotions over time….
because i am but a mass of flesh and bones much like the metal that constitutes a robot’s body..when my creator says deactivate, i die, much like the robot which responds to the human ‘deactivate’ command…
have i evolved to this state because of random bits of code, in my case, genetic matter, which got together, over centuries to become what i am now…millions of centuries from cell to plant to animal to a thinking, feeling human who can record his history and develop a feeling that there is someone who made him, and then debate that belief.. one who can stare at the night sky and wonder about his existence….
will my future generations discover god , physically, and further on decide to protect him from himself and also decide to write their own future, make their own set of robots who will ultimately do to them what they did to their creator? will i see it happen, from somewhere?
maybe, but what you can definitely see now is

    a good forward
    Marriage
after the wedding, the groom lays down the following rules:
“I’ll be home when I want, if I want and at what time I want-and I don’t expect any hassle from you. I expect a great dinner to be on the table unless I tell you that I won’t be home for dinner. I’ll go hunting, fishing, boozing and card-playing when I want with my old buddies and don’t you give me a hard time about it. Those are my rules. Any comments?”
His new bride said, “No, that’s fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex here at seven o’clock every night…whether you’re here or not.”
    Marriage (Part II)
Husband and wife had a bitter quarrel on the day of their 40th wedding anniversary!
The husband yells, “When you die, I’m getting you a headstone that reads,’Here Lies My Wife – Cold As Ever.’
“Yeah?” she replies. “When you die, I’m getting you a headstone that reads,”Here Lies My Husband Stiff At Last.’”
