  • Art of Live in

Like i commented on Stone’s post sometime ago, the makers of Salaam Namaste indeed did some pathbreaking stuff,as they have (apparently) made an entire Bollywood movie about live in relationships..whether or not it is a good movie is not within the scope of this post, but what is within the scope are live in relationships…of course, it goes without saying that the views are personal..
Without marriage there wouldnt be LIR (Live In Relationships, its a long phrase, cant keep typing it always).. the classification happened because of the institution called marriage.. Somewhere down the line, the wise men of the age recognised that society needs to be arranged in some patterns for it to survive, and the immediate higher unit after individual became the family, which (also)involved two individuals living together with the blessings of the law of the land…..
we are now in an age where convenience is the mantra.. from credit cards to communication through handhelds and home deliveries to old age homes, its all about how easy it can be made.. and therefore an LIR fits the bill perfectly, because from sex to apartment rentals, most of everything gets convenient… and i do agree, but with one lil reservation about an antique thing that does not have much relevance today – emotions…
we are perhaps seeing the first generation with an actual choice about relationships- live in or marriage.. i am wondering what a ‘no emotional strings attached’ relationship now would evolve into/result in, 30 years down the line when love and companionship might make a lot more sense… as with most other things in life, theres no second chance…
until next time, do we pass on live in genes to the next generation??
  • Am I Doing Something – about it…..?

A topic i had wanted to write on since i saw ‘phir milenge’..(when i saw ‘philadelphia’, i wasnt blogging)….
for a long time, i had maintained that awareness kills fear..the child’s fear of the dark, for example – once it realises that there is nothing in the dark that causes harm, it loses the fear.although there are a lot of things which dont fall under this categorisation, those, i believe, are things that we dont have complete info about..
AIDS – a phenomenon that is perhaps mankind’s greatest threat ever, because even awareness isnot moving people away from its most usual modes of transmission, and it can strike you by no fault of yours – blood transfusion, infected syringes, certain organ transplants etc. but, it definitely cannot be transmitted by borrowing clothes from an HIV person, sharing of utensils, drinking from the same glass with the person with HIV/AIDS, shaking of hands, embracing,or even kissing an infected person…. yes, i know all of this, all of us who are aware of the disease know this…
but inspite of this awareness, i am not sure if i could bring myself to share clothes with an HIV infected person, to hug him, to maybe even sit close to him ..
it is certainly not lack of awareness thats causing this fear.. is it because i am also aware ofmy mortality but unaware of what lies ahead of me after death? will it take that awareness to get over a fear of something i know about? i, for one, hope not, and the day i get over this fear, i will be a happy man….

  • Word’s Worth

i will not be getting poetic….yes, thank god…:)…. this is more to do with a movie i saw last weekend.. “The word is Lakshya”, so is the movie… Farhan Akhtar, i think, is using emotions he felt during different phases of his life, in his movies, and that increases the ‘reality effect’… i am not good at reviews, so i’ll just say its definitely worth a watch…
Hrihik Roshan’s internal conflicts made me think of the concept of an individual’s ‘lakshya’…. that which manifests  itself in different forms, from answers to uncles’/aunts’ questions of “what do you want to be when you grow up”, to the “career objective” in the resume…and that which propels us to do a whole lot of things , some for good/ some for worse?..and is it, finally, worth all that we do for it… so whats the word’s worth?
the needs that mom and dad gave up so that the child got the best education, the agony of learning the multiplication tables, playing time spent in studying (or made to spend studying..hehe) to retain the first rank in class, the heartache when one realises that music/dumb charades/quizzing/scrabbles/monopoly/cricket are not viewed upon as conventional viable careers or rather , the heartache when one decides to be conventional, having to change ‘lakshya’ at some point of time, disappointing loved ones when one decides to do an unconventional thing for once, playing mindgames and having mindgames played on you in the corporate world, pressure tactics from above and to below so that dadlines are met, losing friends and family because of time constraints, losing friends and family and not being able to be there even to say goodbye…..
and then, after all the gains and losses, judging yourself and wondering what is true joy- having a happy family, being able to see smiling people, sharing the smile with them, dying when their thoughts about you die; or appearing on the cover of “Time’, being the role model for millions, and perhaps a legend, and therefore almost immortal……or something in between, and whether an in-between state is possible … wondering whether you had it in you and you let it go…wondering whether you had a ‘lakshya’ or not, ever…..and wondering whether it mattered…ever..
and thinking that floyd had rightly sung, albeit in a different context “And did you exchange , A walk on part in the war, For a lead role in a cage? “…also thinking that you thought the same kinda lines, but floyd is famous and you are not…hehe… and wondering how much the word is worth and how much is worth the word……..
and wondering if this should do for

  • We don’t need no India Shining

thats probably what the IIMs want to be singing after the govt slashed their fee structure….. i am actually confused, and have very ambivalent thoughts on the issue…on one hand, i dont like the govt sticking its hands into something thats an established brand, and has shown thats its perfectly capable of handling its business, it looks like they wanna have a share of a good thing, maybe even use that in the ‘india shining’ campaign…. on the other hand, i also feel that a govt influence might make the IIMs more accessible….
btw, the election commission has warned the govt not to spend the revenue from taxes for the campaign, so we might get a breather.. 🙂
speaking of IIMs, i just had a thought, humankind protests against all kinds of disparities – race, sex, age etc..but arent institutions like IIMs promoting discrimination based on intellectual aptitude…. at every level of academic life, we strive to take tests and pass, arent we therefore subjecting ourselves to a screening for checking our levels of intellect….they are just standards that suit the majority… i get admission in a good college coz i performed well in school, i get a good job coz i did well in college, the list goes on….but what gives us the right to discriminate against those who arent as bright?? … is it right to condemn them to a life of misery, self doubt and frustration just because they cant utilise their brains to the extent we can?? but we do, coz if we dont, a lot of existing systems would crash!!
saw “plan” during the weekend, expectations were close to nil coz of the reviews, but surprise, surprise, it wasnt that bad, which goes to show that you cant trust reviews all the time….sanjay dutt seems to be perfecting the ‘comic don’ character…. the movie has some corny shayari, courtesy, dutt and mahesh manjrekar, who has also done a good job..think this one takes the cake “sher ke saamne sher bolne se chooha sher nahi banta; bache paida karne hote hain, god lene se koi baap nahi banta”……. 🙂
been reading a whole cartload of articles on ‘outsourcing’, am actually wondering whether He has outsourced sustenance to someone, that would answer a lot of questions regarding the way humankind is evolving, the ‘quality’ issues….btw, have a look at this link, a good read.which brings me to

  • Guest appearances on my own blog

Thats what it has come to, as the time between each post gets longer…once upon a time, it was a daily ritual…. but i cant bring myself to write something everyday just for the heck of writing it, i dont think i can be the ‘daily writing’ kinda guy anymore…the interim budget is likely to add more gloss to the ‘shining india’… inspite of everything, i still believe that the shine should happen in my mind, and not stare back at me each time a i pick a newspaper or watch television…..by the way, read this and this if you are interested in the topic
i watched “LoC” and “Khakee”.. for the guys who said ‘whats that”, they are just two movies, extra special because the former has more than a dozen stars, and the latter has four…. judging by the number of “behen****” and “ma*******” in LoC , it is fair to say that the censor board has become more lenient, not a very ‘must see’ movie , if you discount the stars..but it did convey to me the kind of life a soldier leads, just so that me and my countrymen sleep in peace…..”
khakee’ was good, trashed a whole lot of bollywood cliches, showed the characters as raw human beings, not even the ‘shades of grey’ that bollywood usually says it has now, but normal human beings….
i am not a follower of Superbowl but this image certainly caught my attention :-)….intentional or not is still being debated, but what the hell, theres nothing called bad publicity!!Some kind soul needs to give me tips on my blog’s aesthetics, no cash here, only good publicity and loads of appreciation..hehe
now, i know it isnt a burning question, but this is a good article on whether you have a journal or blog….will leave you with

“The tragedy of life is what dies inside a man while he lives. “
“Everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for insects as well as for the stars. Human beings, vegetables or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance. “
