He was a young man from a small town… born and living in the small town that was his home… his parents had sent him to a good school, and then to a good college in the hope that he would get a good job, marry, give them grandchildren and generally achieve the ‘purpose of his life’… and things were going according to plan till the time he started actively following bollywood, its heroines and the general glitz and glamour… in his final year in college, it started affecting him in a major way..from a shy, unassuming lad, he morphed into a cocky youth who assumed a lot of things, including the love that his beautiful neighbour should feel for him…. and thus began the nights of serenading, bolstered by the fact that he had a good voice and when that didnt give any results, he knew that his studies wouldnt help him anyway, and to realise his dreams, he had to make it big, somewhere, he knew he had to unleash the entertainer within!!
She (not the neighbour above) was a studious young girl, her parents had pinned a lot of hopes on her.. they were very liberal parents, and wanted her to live her life, her way.. and she had her head firmly screwed on to her shoulders…. that was until she heard a certain bollywood singer. she began hero-worshipping him to the point of obsession, and made up her mind that she somehow had to meet him, whatever be the cost.. her interest in her studies dropped, and she was forever listening to him, and making plans to meet him…
and thus it is.. for people like him and her, and others quite similar from them or different from them, they made this (er, something like this)….judged by a forever ‘inspired’ music director, a choreographer turned director, and a singer who’s not sure if he is a singer, an actor or a rockstar, they want their moments in the sun…
billions would watch them..one will win, ten will get offers, hundred will know they have taken a step in the direction, ten thousand will be shattered and may not be able to pick up the pieces… for them, was it worth it??
until next time, is idol worship in??
It’s high time it’s out even if it is in.
life is full of choices. they made a choice n nw they have to live by it, worth or no worth. no point in lookin back.
i second arunima abt idolworship.
SIGH I am not a big fan of this show either ways.. we should come up with good reality shows if any … instead of aping the west !!
American Idol also sucks … 🙁
Kinda twisted text Manu!
I watched American and Australian Idol… and I reckon, if you think you got what it takes, then its an opportunity just like any other.
Go – Get it!!
And if you are sent away…ridiculed and broken hearted…then hey thats life!! How you take defeat on a game show is very likely how you will take defeat in real life! ..No??!
arunima: 🙂
la devil: hmm, true, but my point is that these days, are we being forced to make choices.?
pallavi: have a problem with reality shows per se 🙂
tyler: where? what?
I don’t really have anything to say abt ur post.
Never had an idol. And never will.
But abt the comments on ur posts………. life is NOT full of choices, cuz if it were wudn’t I take on the next best choice if I failed in one? But all the same I love watching all this stuff!
maybe those who never made it can take comfort in the fact that they lost out to others better than them. i watch amrikan idol. its fun.
j: since life rarely has an undo function, by making a choice, dont we lose the right of choices for that particular situation?? so, you possibly cant revisit and choose the second best choice..
aqua: wo sab chhodo.. aap kahan the?? 🙁
i can understand the small towner’s thirst to make it big, to take wht chance there is…whtever works is fine.
you hv to get your skin scorched by an “XYZZZZZZZ city? ooh where IS that?” to understand.
whtever works, is fine.

🙂 choices r jus God’s way o humouring us..indulging us maybe. i dont really think we have CHOICE choice.
As much as I hate the idea of destiny and fate, I am forced(hee hee!) to accept it as a possible explanation for the way things happen at times.
But that doesnt mean one stops owning up responsibility and the thousands have got to realise that it is a commercial venture and the people judging them are just judging their voices and have their own baggage coming along… so the judgement is just their opinion, not a true reflection of the contestants always!
Besides I hate the idea of reality TV shows!
austere: is it?? and does this work??
elixir: reminds me of the line ‘wait till u tell God about your plans’… 🙂
garfy: xactly where my my argument begins… TRPs being the main concern, and peoples’ futures being played around with…
I missed it!! But better late than never!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D:D:D
