{"id":5530,"date":"2011-07-27T10:00:34","date_gmt":"2011-07-27T04:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/manuscrypts.com\/test\/?p=5530"},"modified":"2021-01-16T14:20:01","modified_gmt":"2021-01-16T08:50:01","slug":"a-people-person","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/manuscrypts.com\/test\/2011\/07\/27\/a-people-person\/","title":{"rendered":"A People Person?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Scott Adams&#8217; post titled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dilbert.com\/blog\/entry\/people_who_dont_need_people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People who don&#8217;t need people<\/a>&#8221; (via <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/surekhapillai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Surekha<\/a>) reminded me of Asimov&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spacer_%28Asimov%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spacers<\/a>, the first humans to emigrate to space, and their life on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aurora_%28planet%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aurora<\/a>, the first of the worlds they settled. Scott Adams predicts that &#8220;<em>we will transfer our emotional connections from humans to technology,  with or without actual robots. It might take a generation or two, but  it&#8217;s coming. And it probably isn&#8217;t as bad as it sounds.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the huge canvas that Asimov had created, the Spacers chose low population sizes and longer lifespans (upto 400 years) as a means to a higher quality of living, and were served by a large number of robots. As per wiki, &#8220;<em>Aurora at its height had a population of 200 million humans and 10 billion robots.<\/em>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These days, as I experience the vagaries of the cliques and weak ties &#8211; not just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/reporting\/2010\/10\/04\/101004fa_fact_gladwell?currentPage=all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Malcolm Gladwell&#8217;s<\/a> much flogged social media version, but even real life ones, I can&#8217;t help but agree with Scott Adams that it won&#8217;t be as bad as it sounds. I probably wouldn&#8217;t mind it at all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>When I feel like a freak<br \/>\nWhen I&#8217;m on the other end of someone&#8217;s mean streak<br \/>\nPeople make fun I&#8217;ve got to lose myself<br \/>\nTake my thin skin and move it somewhere else<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>I&#8217;m setting myself up for the future<br \/>\nLooking for the chance that something good might lie ahead<br \/>\nI&#8217;m just looking for the possibilities<br \/>\nIn my mind I&#8217;ve got this skin I can shed<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Scott Adams began his post noting that humans are overrated. Sometimes, I wonder whether humanity is, and whether losing our current perceptions of it would actually make a difference.
