The only difference was that the last time we were here, it was called The Riverside Bar & Kitchen! The place used to have a decent crowd, so we wondered why they had to come up with a new avatar – that too without alcohol, as the board announced. The lady at the reception announced that too, more than once. A side glance told me that D didn’t look tipsy, and it definitely wasn’t me! The decor hasn’t changed much, except for the desserts display which had disappeared. The bar was obviously history. Also meant that the crowd was more subdued.

The menu is quite interesting, and a couple of things stood out. One, the menu adds insult to injury by having the starter section called “Daru ke saath chakna”! I think deep down, they want to serve alcohol, but they can’t for some reason. The lady at the reception was probably reminding herself. Two, they have a destination theme in the menu but the locations and the food are all over the place!

We began with a Butter Chicken Bunny Chow – black bun mini-burgers with an excellent butter chicken filling. It made good on the promise of melt-in-your-mouth. We weren’t sure about hunger levels, so we decided to go with another starter – mozzarella chicken tikka. It was a basic chicken and cheese kabab but again, not bad at all.

We were quite excited by the description of a Kheema Ghotala Pizza, but unfortunately that wasn’t available. So we opted for a Smoked Cheery (sic) tomato and creme sauce. I am still wondering if they were trying to add some gaiety to the dish, but that notwithstanding, the pasta too was delicious!

There were some dessert options, but with Stoner across the road, it becomes a very difficult battle for any outlet around here to win.

The ambiance is calm and pleasant. The service was friendly and prompt, and thanks to Zomato Gold, the meal came to just under Rs.850, which was a very good deal indeed.

The Reunion Club, 101, Whitefield Main Road (map) Ph: 45128691

The restaurant in Whitefield formerly known as The Riverside Bar & Kitchen, minus a key ingredient – alcohol.
