The pandemic has the potential to cause a step shift in disparity. Not just in the familiar 1% and 99%, but within the privileged classes as well. This is an exploration along three areas – money, relationships & society, and evolution – to the future of front tier (and frontier) journeys.
Choosing “Shuffle Play” on Netflix and outsourcing an entertainment decision to an algorithm may not seem like a big deal, but I think there are second-order consequences that affect the self, society, and species – hugely driven by surveillance capitalism.
In the last few years, I have increasingly seen a couple of elements of Kerala’s culture being hijacked – movies and Onam. As a part of the audience that has a direct relationship with both, I wonder when cultural exchange moves to cultural appropriation.
Kaamyaab, a movie that I immensely liked for many reasons, once again brought up thoughts on how one defines success. Even when one has moved past societal notions and is only locking horns with self-image, the path is reasonably unclear. I thought I had moved ahead by a step, but came upon a bunch of challenges there too!
