Our first day and a half in Malta, which features Fort Manoel that is “historical” for GoT reasons, Marsaxlokk – a fishing village with snooty restaurants, places of interest in the St.Julian’s area, and lots of Maltese local drinks and food, including a microbrewery!
A new hangout in Seegehalli had us all excited. But though the service and ambiance didn’t give us cause to complain, the food was a mixed bag, and the drinks were uninspiring. Given other options in the area, this one is a skip.
A literally ‘crappy’ beginning is actually a great indication of the author’s ability to make the mundane interesting! There are eleven intertwined stories which bring out a variety of subjects – the Parsi way of life, the clash of old and new mindsets, identity, the idea of home – all dealt with great skill by a sensitive chronicler.
Being frugal on everything but one’s real wants is a good path to be on, but knowing one’s real and yet, ever changing wants is a not easy. The mind is pulled by paradoxical desires of wanting to belong and stand out, when all it truly wants is to just be! How does one get there?
The Old Fashioned Bar, I thought, was just a good name. Turned out, it had a serious focus on Old Fashioned, my favourite drink – more than a dozen options to choose from. Relaxed ambiance, good drinks, decent food and service, and cocktails outside of the standard kind makes this a good place to visit.
