Not exactly a revolutionary topic for a post, but maybe its like one of those old songs we have forgotten, and get suddenly reminded of, when we hear a remix… and so it is, a topic which keeps cropping up now and then, or rather a remix of different topics….
it seems like a cycle – forgetting and remembering… especially with music.. maybe that explains the success of remixes.. of course, the videos play a major part, but yet, there must be something about a song that inspires remixes… these days, maybe we really dont get time to enjoy a song, rather , enjoy it so much and so many times that it gets imprinted in our minds..because the next ‘happening’ song is just around the corner.. and so a ‘refresh’ is inevitable every few months.. a reminder about songs we used to like…
SwB wrote a post sometime back about not knowing the words of the national anthem.. maybe this generation considers ‘Jana Gana Mana…’ also as a relic of the past, a baggage that must be shedded.. in this day of fading geographical boundaries, maybe there is no space for patriotism, maybe it has lost out to the MNCs and call centers that provide the daily bread…
having said all that, i do know an old song that was quite a hit from the 40s to the late 60s. in fact, our generation and those after us also know it, though it hasnt been quite that popular, but the ‘pokemon/ harry potter’ generation kids also stand in attention when it is sung every morning in school… if we remixed that song, it perhaps would replace a ‘Rock Anthems – Remix’, and the #1 selling album for some time would be “National Anthem – Remix”….
until next time, Jai Hind rocks… or is it Jay Sean??

a lotta ppl here dont know their country’s national anthem. i find that quite strange somehow…
I do believe a national anthem remix would be the thing in about 10 years from now, but that’s just an opinion. We’re trying some experiments here, please do check and leave an opinion behind.

Jay Leno talks!
To be honest I had forgotten a few words of the Indian Anthem – and I realised that when singing it in the VBM on the weekend! :O I felt a little guilty…but then not having heard it for almost 6 years can take a toll.
A remix..?! Hmm… I’m sure there should have been one by now, like the Vande Maatram remix by ARR. And I liked the ARR version and Jay Sean too! 🙂
a national anthem remix?? It could work…
its difficult being original
its not a song, its a sound, a calling. i cant help feeling it when i hear the national anthem complete attention, and that is it.
unit next time………..stand at ease!
Hope it is not a way towards a ‘Nations Anth'[end]
i think the statement that ‘in this day of fading geographical boundaries, maybe there is no space for patriotism’ is not true. in america people hang the national flag outside their houses. so what does that indicate? would the same be welcome/encouraged in our country.
i think schools should start the day by asking the kids to sing the national anthem, after a prayer. most of us, the 70’s kids grew up in such a environment and it was a nice way of knowing the anthem.
Most schools do make the kids sing the national anthem everyday. And I confess, very ashamedly, that recently I too had forgotten the words until my kids corrected me!!!!
pixie: strange but true 🙂
writesetting: will def drop by soon 🙂
JW: that he does 🙂
Nupur: i havent heard one yet…
mirage: exactly
erratica: yes….now
deez: 🙂
madan: hopefully not!!
parna: was only referring to it in an indian context…
aekta: thank god for kids 🙂
hmmm..remix version..nahhhhh!!!!
Thankfully, I have never forgotten the National Anthem. It looks sad when it is forced though. Like making people stand before the movie starts and people not really standing at will.
Jai Hind rocks by the way.
stone: 🙂
arunima: yup agree…
HA! so I’m not the only one who’s forgotten the words to the national anthem! .. to think some people made me out to be some sort of bludy desh drohi!
national anthem remix – don’t think it’ll work Manu boy. A remix’s gotta have a video to go along with it .. with girls in chota-chota kapda and all that – don’t see how we’d be able to throw that very essential ingredient into Jana gana mana!
Rock is in for people like us..in their twenties…otherwise think National Anthem in hip hop!
An eminem rendering ? Aiyoh rama ..may my ears never have to be violated with that!
I hope u people had a lovely Independence day. We celebrated it in Yellowstone National Park with the boys being awarded the Junior ranger badge by a ranger. And we shared the fact that it was India’s Independence day that day! And did u know that Jana Gana was written as a welcome song for King George when he visited india in 1920s? Vande Mataram was not chosen as the anthem owing to its inability of being played by a band (before ARR of course!) Of course it helped being in the school choir to know boh Jana gana and Vande mataram!
SwB: hmmm, we could always show skimpily clad girls realising the folly of their ways and going back to saris!!..lol (on second thoughts, would we really want that to happen??)
cynic: we may actually live to see that… how ’bout baba sehgal instead of eminem??!!
blokes: i remember a huge controversy when the BJP was ruling, about the King George thingie.. but didnt we make some changes (in the lyrics ) from the original??
nope we changed none. bharata bhagya vidhata was meant for the king but is interpreted today as the divine lord. sindh technically should be erazed as it is in Pakistan. Vand mataram is in true indian spirit including the rendering in raag des.
<<< concurs with Blokes
more like Jay Leno … hahah !!
the song should be introduced well to the kids instead of forcing it on them… 🙁
