Each time I think that it is impossible to have another grub spot on 12th Main, I see a new place launched with much pizzazz. This time, it was The Pizza Bakery, which is above Tata Cha and is spread across a couple of floors, one of which is a rooftop. Great thanks to Bangalore weather, but spoiled thanks to the loud horns on what has to be the busiest road in all of Bangalore. Also, right next door is some gym, so you need to be mentally prepared for any feelings of guilt you might have thanks to those strange people who work on their abs at 8 PM on a Saturday night while you are busy well, working on your abs.
We had a reservation for a table in the alfresco section, and if you’re planning to go on a weekend, you really should book a table because the place was packed all the while we were there. Thanks to the soft colours, comfortable seating that includes high stools and some decor elements like that Bev D version of Mona Lisa, the place gives a casual chic vibe.
We tried the St.Martin Belgian White on tap, and weren’t too impressed. It’s a bit darker than the standard wheat and I felt a metallic after taste. Should have stuck to Geist. Also tried a Watermelon & Mint juice that wasn’t bad.
We began the meal with Stuffed Garlic Bread and Baked Nachos. The first had a delicious mozzarella and caramelised onion filling in soft bread. The nachos was standard fare and there was nothing really distinctive about the taste. The Roast Chicken and Mushroom Ravioli had an excellent creamy pesto sauce and well made ravioli with a tasty filling.
The Four Seasons pizza roasted peppers, artichoke, black olive and feta and mozzarella, and was surprisingly decent for a veg pizza. That’s all you’ll get out of me. The Spicy Goan Chorizo pizza looked fiery enough with red paprika, and its combination with Goan pork chorizo delivered on the name, with the mozzarella around to temper things a bit. This set up the stage well for the Chocolate Decadence – the soft mousse did a good job with the flavours and the chocolate glaze and the crunch at the bottom provided the texture though the latter was a little inconsistent. The Nutella and Mascarpone Sourdough had some excellent cinnamon flavoured mascarpone and a generous Nutella filling that left us with a warm, sticky,(tch tch) happy feeling at the end of the meal.
The service was prompt and friendly though we took liberties with their glass water bottle (kept it in a nearby planter) when the table got too small to hold all the items we kept ordering. The bill came to over Rs.4500 (4 people, and after Zomato Gold subsidies) which in one way seems ok (location) but in terms of what we ate and drank, is a little pricey.
