A poor brahmin who survived on alms. Once, he got some grain powder and after giving part to Agni and part to brahman, he distributed some of it among his sons, and then sat down to eat the remaining. Dharma then appeared in the form of a brahmin and Unchavritti gave all the food to him. But the guest was not satisfied and therefore Unchavritti gave him his son’s share too. Dharma was impressed by this and took the entire family to heaven. At that time, some of the grain fell on a mongoose and turned that part of its body into a golden colour.
