Uttarapanchala
An ancient kingdom. After the death of Prishata, this was ruled by Drupada as per Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 129 verse 43. Later, this was ruled by Drona. As per Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 137 verses 70-76, it was situated north of the Ganga.
Uttarajyotisha
A region in the western side of India. It was conquered by Nakula as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 32 verse 11.
Uttarakosala
An ancient region which was conquered by Bhima as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 30 verse 3.
Uttarakuru
A part of Jambudwipa. As per the Mahabharata, Arjuna reached here as part of his conquest and returned with great wealth. This place is closed to mortals as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 28 verses 7-20. Its southern border is Nilgiri and the northern border is Meru. It is inhabited mostly by spiritual people and it has a variety of flora and fauna. A tree named Ksheeri existed here from which milk used to flow. It is believed that there were also trees that granted every wish. Its land is filled with diamonds and gold. Those who fall from the heavens land here. The average lifespan is about ten thousand years.
A kind of bird named Bharunda lives here, which drags dead bodies into caves, as per Mahabharata Bhishmaparva Chapter 8 verses 2-13.
Uttarauluka
A region in the northern part of India, conquered by Arjuna as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 27 verse 11.
Uttara
An agni as per Mahabharata Vanaparva Chapter 221 verse 29.
Uttara (4)
A king who was destroyed for mocking those greater than him, as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 22 verse 24.
Uttara (3)
The son of Matsya, the king of Virata. He had a sister, also named Uttara. He was also called Bhuminjaya as per Mahabharata Virataparva Chapter 35 verse 9. He had also accompanied Matsya to Draupadi’s swayamwar as per Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 185 verse 8.

Uttara participated in the Mahabharata war. He fought with Virabahu on the first day as per Mahabharata Bhishmaparva Chapter 45 verse 77. Uttara was killed by Shalya as per Mahabharata Bhishmaparva Chapter 47 verses 36-39. Since he died a warrior’s death, he was added to the vishwadevas as per Mahabharata Swargarohanaparva Chapter 5 verses 17-18.
