Gritsamada (1)

A famous sage and son of Vitahavya. He was equal to Brihaspati and a friend of Indra. He once told Yudhishtira about the greatness of Shiva. Many people confused him with Indra. Once the asuras took him prisoner because of this. His son was Kucheta as per Mahabharata Anushasanaparva Chapters 18, 30.

Gritsapati

The son of Kapila, a Puruvanshi king. He also had a brother named Kaushika. Gritsapati had children among brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishyas and shudras as per Agnipurana Chapter 277.

Gulika

A hunter who was given salvation by the sage Uttanga. Gulika tried to steal the gold from a Vishnu temple in the capital of Sauvira. Uttanga was sitting there then. Gulika raised his sword to harm the sage. The sage cursed and killed him, but immediately sprinkled water from the Ganga on him. The hunter attained Vaikuntha as per Naradiyapurana.

Guhyaka

A Yaksha, and also a set of yakshas who resided in Kuber’s court. As per Mahabharata Chapter 186 verse 7, they attended Draupadi’s swayamwar.

Kuber’s court is held up in the skies by the Guhyakas as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 10 verse 3. Bhima killed several Guhyakas in Gandhamadana as per Mahabharata Shalyaparva Chapter 11 verse 55. Several warriors who died in Kurukshetra in the Mahabharata war gained entry into the Guhyakas’ world as per Mahabharata Swargarohanaparva Chapter 40 verse 23.

Guha

The king of Shringiverapura, a Nishada kingdom on the banks of the Ganga. Rama, who set out on his exile with Sita and Lakshmana, visited Guha who received them and gave them fruits. Rama insisted on only drinking water. He also fed Rama’s horse. At night, when Lakshmana was guarding the Rama and Sita, Guha said he would take on the job. Lakshmana refused but they started talking and thus spent the night. In the morning, as per Rama’s request, Guha took them to the opposite bank on a boat, according to Ramayana Ayodhyakanda Sarga 50.

After Bharata returned from Kekaya and set out looking for Rama, he also visited Guha. Guha updated him and sent a few soldiers with him as per Ramayana Ayodhyakanda Sarga 84.

Agnipurana Chapter 6 also describes Guha’s involvement with Rama, Sita and Lakshmana.

Gulmaka

Gunaddhya’s uncle. Gunaddhya wrote the Brihatkatha. The brahmin Somasharma in Supratishtita had 3 sons – Vatsa, Gulmaka, Shrutartha. Gunaddhya was the son of Shrutartha as per Kathasaritasagara Kathapeethalambaka Taranga 6.
