The son of Indra and Mukunda. Once when the sage Rugmangada was out, Indra took his wife Mukunda in the guise of the sage. She became pregnant and this child was Gritsamada who grew up to be a scholar. No one could beat him in a debate. He once attended a shraadha at Magadha with Vasishta and others. There, Atri ridiculed him on his parentage. He came back and questioned Mukunda who told him the truth. He was ashamed of his mother’s act and cursed that she would become a tree. She cursed back that he would have a daitya as son. Gritsamada got his curse revoked by Ganapati as per Ganeshapurana.
