Antecedents: Vishnu – Brahma – Marichi – Kashyapa – Shurapadma – Agnimukha.

Agnimukha was born to Shurapadma and Maya’s daughter. One asura escaped the war with devas and hid in the netherworld. His daughter, Surasa, got married to Kashyapa. They had a hundred children including Shurapadma, Simhika, Simhavaktra, Tarakasura, Gomukha, Ajamukhi. Shurapadma married Maya’s daughter and had four sons – Bhanugopa, Agnimukha, Vajrabahu, Hiranya, as per Skandapurana Asurakanda. Agnimukha’s heroics in the wars with the devas have been described in the Skandapurana.
