Chirakari

A son of Gautama who used to spend a long time before taking an action. Once, Gautama accused his wife of adultery and asked his son to kill her. Gautama then went off into the forest. Chirakari was about to kill his mother but then sat down to think – whether matricide was a sin, who would take care of his father after her, would his father repent after she was dead and so on. Gautama got back by dusk, repenting his anger. Chirakari was still deep in thought. When Gautama found that his wife wasn’t dead, he was happy and blessed Chirakari as per Mahabharata Shantiparva Chapter 266.
