Chandravansh

A dynasty that ruled ancient India, and that began with Chandra. Since it was established by Chandra, all the kings in it were known as Chandravanshis. For Chandra’s birth see Pururavas.

Chandra – Budha – Pururavas – Ayus – Nahusha. Nahusha had 2 sons – Ayati, Yayati. Yayati had 3 sons with Sharmishta  – Druhyu, Anudruhyu and Puru and with Devayani – Yadu, Thurvasu.

Druhyu – Babhru – Setu – Aranya – Gandharva – Dharma – Khrita – Durddama – Prachetas – Mlechas.

Anudruhyu had 3 sons – Sabhanara, Chakshsush, Paroksha. Sabhanara continued the dynasty with Kalanara to whom was born Srinjaya. Srinjaya had 4 sons – Janamejaya, Mahamanas, Ushinara, Titiksha. Ushinara and Titiksha continued the dynasty.

Ushinara had 5 sons – Shibi, Vena, Krimi, Ushi, Darpa. Shibi’s sons were Bhadra, Suveera, Kekaya, Vrishadarpa, Kapotharoma. To Kekaya was born Keechakas.

Titiksha – Kushadhrita – Homa – Sutapas – Bali. Bali, son of Sutapas, had seven sons with Suteshna – Anga, Kalinga, Suhva, Pudara, Vanga, Adrupa. From Anga was born the Anga dynasty. Anga – Dadhivahana – Draviratha – Dharmaratha – Chitraratha – Satyaratha – Lomapada – Chaturanga – Pridhulaksha – Chamba – Haryanga – Bhadraratha. Bhadraratha had 3 sons – Brihadratha, Brihalkarma, Brihalbhanu. Brihadratha – Brihanmanas – Jayadratha – Vijaya – Dhritavrata – Satyakarma – Adhiratha. From his foster son Karna was born Vrishasena.

Meanwhile, to Puru was born Janamejaya. Janamejaya – Prachinvan – Praveera – Namasyu – Veetabhaya – Shundu – Bahuvidha – Samyati – Rahovadi – Raudrashwa. Raudrashwa married Mitrakeshi.  Their sons were Riksheyu, Krisheyu, Sannateyu, Ghriteyu, Chiteyu, Sthandileyu, Dharmeyu, Sammiteyu, Ritheyu, Matinara. Matinara’s sons were Pratiratha, Santurodha.

Pratiratha – Kanva -Medhathithi.

Santurodha had 3 sons – Dushyanta, Praveera, Samanta. To Dushyanta and Shakuntala was born Bharata. Bharata – Suhotra – Suhota – Gala – Garda – Suketu – Brihalkshetra. Brihalkshetra had 4 sons – Nara, Mahavira, Garga, Hasti. Nara’s son was Sankriti and his sons were Rantideva and Kuru.Mahavira had a son named Papaksheya. To Garga was born Shani. Hasti established Hastinapura and continued the dynasty. Hasti had 3 sons – Ajameedha, Purameedha, Dwimeedha. Purumeedha’s son was Vipra.

Ajameedha had 3 sons – Riksha, Brihadishu, Nila.

Riksha – Samvarana – Kuru. Kuru had 4 sons – Parikshit, Sudhanus, Jahnu, Nishada. Sudhanus and Jahnu continued the dynasty.

Sudhanus – Chyavana – Kriti – Uparicharavasu – Brihadratha – Kushagra – Rishabha – Pushpavan – Juhu. Brihadratha’s other son was Jarasandha. Jarasandha’s sons were Sahadeva, Soma, Turya, Shrutashru.

Jahnu – Suratha – Viduratha – Sarvabhauma – Jayatsena – Ravyaya – Bhavuka – Chakrodhata – Devatithi – Riksha – Bhima – Praticha (Pratiya). Praticha had 3 sons – Devapi – Shantanu – Balhika. Shantanu was also known as Mahabhishak. He had 2 wives – Ganga, Satyavati. Ganga’s son was Bhishma. Vyasa was born to Satyavati before her marriage. with Parashara. With Sahantanu, her sons were Chitrangada and Vichitravirya. From Vyasa were born Vidura, Dhritarashtra and Pandu. To Dhritashtra were born the Kauravas. Pandu’s wives Kunti and Madri gave birth to Yudhishtira, Bhima, Arjuna and Nakula, Sahadeva respectively. Yudhishtira’s sons were Devaka, Prativindhya. Bhima’s son was Ghatotkacha. Nakula and his wife Renumati had a son named Shatanika. Arjuna- Abhimanyu – Parikshit – Chandrapida – Satyakarna – Shwetakarna – Ajaparshwa – Janamejaya – Shatanika – Sahasranika – Ashwamedhas – Ashwinikrishna – Gupta – Chitraratha – Shuchiratha – Dhritiman – Sushena – Suneeta – Suchakshus – Nala – Upariplava – Medhavi – Mrityunjaya – Dushya – Nimi – Brihadratha – Shatanika – Durddama – Vibhinara – Dandapani – Kshemaka.

Meanwhile Brihadishu – Brihardha – Brihalkaya – Jayadratha – Vishada – Senachitta – Ruchirashwa. He had 3 sons – Dridhahanu, Kashya, Vatsa.

And Nila – Shanti – Sushanti – Puruja – Arka – Bharmashwa – Panchala. Panchala had 5 sons – Mulgala, Yavaneera, Kambalya, Brihadishu, Sanjaya. Mulgala had 2 children – Divodasa, Ahalya. Ahalya was married to Gautama and their son was Shatananda. Shatananda – Satyavrati – Sharadwan. From Divodasa – Mitreyu – Pushya – Sudasa – Sahadeva – Somaka – Drupada. Drupada was the king of Panchala and his children were Dhrishtadyumna and Draupadi. Dhrishtaketu and Dhritaketu were the sons of Dhrishtadyumna.

From Yadu started the Yaduvansh. He had 4 sons – Nala, Ripu, Sahasrajit, Kroshta. To Sahasrajit was born Shatajit who had 3 sons – Mahahaya, Venuhaya, Hehaya (Ekavira). Hehaya – Dharma – Kuni. Kuni had 4 sons – Sadajit, Mahishman, Bhadrasena, Durddama. Bhadrasena’s son was Dhanaka, and he had 4 sons – Kritavirya, Kritani, Kritavarma, Kritaujas. Kritavirya’s son was Kartaviryarjuna, and he had a 100 sons including Jayamadhwaja, Shurasena, Vrikshabha, madhu, Maurjita etc. Madhu’s son was Vrishni from whom the Vrishnivansh began. Vrishni had 4 sons – Sumitra, Yudhajit, Vasu, Sarvabhauma. Yudhajit’s sons were Shini and Nimna. Shini – Satyaka – Satyaki (Yuyudhana) – Jaya- Kuni – Amitra – Prishni. Prishni had 2 sons – Chitraradha and Shwapalka.

Meanwhile, from Jayamadhwaja – Talajankha – Veetihotra – Anantha – Durjaya.

Chitraradha had 2 sons – Vidhuradha, Kukura. Vidhuradha – Shura – Shini – Bhoja – Hridika. Hridika had 4 sons – Devavahana, Gadadhanva, Kritaparva, Shura and a daughter Kunti. Shura’s sons with Marusha were Vasu, Devabhaga, Devashravas, Anaka, Srinjaya, Kakanika, Shyamaka, Vatsa, Kavuka, Vasudeva. Vasudeva married Devaki and to them was born Krishna. Krishna – Pradyumna – Anirudha – Vajra. Kukura – Vahni – Viloma – Kapotaroma – Tumburu – Dundubhi – Daridra – Vasu – Nahuka – Ahuka. Ahuka’s sons were Ugrasena, Devaka. Ugrasena had a son named Kamsa and a daughter named Devaki. Devaka’s sons were Devapa, Upadeva, Sudeva. Devapa had 7 daughters – Shrutadeva, Shantideva, Upadeva, Srideva, Devarakshita, Sahadeva, Devaki.

Shwapalka had 12 sons – Akrura, Asanga, Sarameya, Mridura, Mriduvalgiri, Dharmavriddha, Sukarma, Kshatropeksha, Arimarddana, Shatrughna, Gandhamadana, Pratibahu. Akrura’s sons were Devaka, Upadevaka.

Thurvasu – Vahni – Bharga – Bhanu – Tribhanu – Karandhama – Marutta (he adopted) Dushyanta – Varudha – Gandira. Gandira had 4 sons – Gandhara, Kerala, Chola, Pandya. Gandhara – Kola – Druhyu – Babhrusetu – Purovasu – Gandhari – Kharma – Khrita – Vidusha – Prachetas. He had 4 sons – Anibhra, Sabhanara, Chakshusha, Parameshu. Sabhanara – Kalanara – Srinjaya – Puranjaya – Janamejaya – Mahasala – Mahamanas.
