Govardhana

A mountain in Ambadi that is symbolic of Krishna. It is also known as Giriraja and it was here that the residents of Ambadi used to pray to Indra for rains. Krishna later said that it was the mountain that gave rains, not Indra, and so it should be worshiped. Indra was incensed by this and sent down a fierce rain to wipe out Ambadi. Krishna held up the mountain like an umbrella and the citizens were saved as per Bhagavata Dashamaskanda. See Krishna.
