Kailash

Meru is 18000 miles wide and 2000 miles high. To its east are two mountains named Jaddhara, Devakuta. To its west are Pavaman and Pariyatra. On the south are Kailash and Karavira, and to the north Trishringa and Makaragiri. Shiva and Kuber live in kailash as per Mahabharata Vanaparva Chapters 109, 141. Vishnu has meditated once in Kailash to please Shiva as per Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 222 verses 33-40. Mainaka is situated north of Kailash as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 3. Once Vyasa visted Kailash as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 43 verse 17.

The king Sagara, along with his 2 queens meditated in Kailash as per Mahabharata Vanaparva Chapter 106. It was here that Bhageeratha prayed to Shiva to bring down Ganga. Kailash is 6 yojanas high and is visited by the devas daily. In Kuber’s abode are several yakshas, rakshasas, kinnaras, garudas, matangas, gandharvas as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 141. This also contains the lake that Bhima visited. As per Mahabharata Vanaparva, the Pandavas visited Kailash during their exile. Once Kamadhenu meditated here as per Mahabharata Anushasanaparva Chapter 83.
