The wife of the king Chitraketu. Chitraketu had several wives but was childless. He prayed to Angiras and had a child with Kritadyuti. The other wives were jealous and poisoned the child. Kritadyuti and Chitraketu fell unconscious. Angiras and Narada appeared there and tried to console them, but they were still dejected. Angiras evoked the child’s soul and asked it to occupy the body. But the soul disappeared saying that he had many other sets of parents before this and he couldn’t be only Chitraketu’s son. Angiras and Narada left. The king and queen began roaming the world visiting temples. Once Chitraketu reached Shiva’s presence. There, he was embarrassed when he saw Parvati sitting on Shiva’s thigh in the presence of many sages. He questioned her and she cursed him to become an asura. He was thus reborn as Vritrasura. Kritadyuti gave up her life soon after as per Bhagavata Shashtaskanda.
