Agnivesha

Agnivesha was the guru of both Drona and Drupada. It is also said that Agnivesha learned his weapon skills from Agastya. Drona respected him highly and the Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 139 has mentions of this sage as an unparalleled user of weapons.

Agniloka

One of the heavens situated in the summits of the Mahameru mountains. According to the Devibhagavata, Agniloka, Indraloka, Yamaloka, Kailash (Shivaloka), Satyaloka and Vaikunth are all located here.

Agnimukha

An asura.

Antecedents: Vishnu – Brahma – Marichi – Kashyapa – Shurapadma – Agnimukha.

Agnimukha was born to Shurapadma and Maya’s daughter. One asura escaped the war with devas and hid in the netherworld. His daughter, Surasa, got married to Kashyapa. They had a hundred children including Shurapadma, Simhika, Simhavaktra, Tarakasura, Gomukha, Ajamukhi. Shurapadma married Maya’s daughter and had four sons – Bhanugopa, Agnimukha, Vajrabahu, Hiranya, as per Skandapurana Asurakanda. Agnimukha’s heroics in the wars with the devas have been described in the Skandapurana.

Agnimitra

He is the protagonist in Kalidasa’a Malavikagnimitra. He is a king from the Shungakula era and is a son of Pushpamitra. The work is about the marriage of Agnimitra and Malavika.

Agniman

A kind of Agni. According to the Mahabharata Vanaprva Chapter 221 verse 31, if an agni from the Agnihotra touches an agni from Sutikagriha, a sacrifice of ashtakapala should be made in Agniman.

Agnipravesha

Ramayana Yudhakanda Sarga 119 describes Sita’s agnipravesha. Though he rescused Sita, Rama was angry at Sita having stayed in the custody of Ravana for such a long time. He decided to give her a test. Lakshmana prepared the fire, while a tearful Sita jumped into it, with a prayer to the gods. After the agnipravesha, Rama accepted Sita to be pure.
