Amsha

(According to Vishnupurana Ansha 1, Chapter 16, the name Amshu has also been used for the same person) He is a maharishi in the Marichi vansh.

Antecedents : Vishnu – Brahma – Marichi – Kashyapa – Amsha

Birth: Brahma had six sons – Marichi, Angiras, Athri, Pulastya, Pulaha, Krithu. Marichi’s son was Kashyapa. Kashyapa married the thirteen daughters of Daksha. The eldest among them – Aditi had the following sons – Dhaata, Aaryama, Mitra, Shakra, Varuna, Amsha, Bhaga, Vivasvaan, Pushav, Savithav, Thwashta, and Vishnu. They were collectively known as the Dwadashadityas, according to Mahabharata, Adiparva, Chapter 65.

Events: According to Mahabharata Chapter 123, Pada 66, Amsha was among the many devas and sages who attended the birth ceremony of Arjun. According to the Mahabharata, Shalyaparva, Chapter 45, Pada 34, he was also present during the coronation of Skandadeva, in the Kaurava-Pandava war. He gifted five soldiers named Parikha, Vada, Bhima, Dahana and Dahati to Skandadeva.
